My name is Jenna Hughes and I study Graphic Design, A2 level at Pendleton College. I achieved an A grade in my first year on the course (AS level) and I also have an A grade in GCSE Art. I hope to progress on to the Graphic Design degree course, as it is a subject that I am passionate about and I wish to pursue a career in this particular industry. I have enjoyed the Graphic Design A level course immensely as it is a subject that allows you to express your own personal style and come up with new and innovative ideas.

By studying Graphic Design at University it will prepare me for the world of work and allow me to gain the skills and qualifications that I need, in order to have a successful career in the industry. I will also have the opportunity to work in the different areas of design including advertising and promotion.

Below are a number of pieces of work that I have created whilst at college, some of the work is taken from my AS year and others from my A2 year which I am halfway through. The work ranges from experimental, playful pieces such as postcard designs, creating a typeface and designing a logo and promotional poster for our own urban fashion store. I have also included work which have been created for a brief with a more serious concept for example I have designed an awareness campaign for the 'Alcohol Concern Charity' and a front cover and logo for National Geographic Magazine where I have focused on the Haiti earthquake.

In my spare time I enjoy socialising with friends, going to the gym and swimming, reading and doing some of my own design work that I can use on my A level Graphics course to enhance my work.  I also have a part time job working at Selfridges for Coty Prestige, which is a beauty company specialising in perfume and sun care. Working for Coty has allowed me to gain knowledge of a number of different brands including Calvin Klein and Vivienne Westwood Fragrance, and how the advertising and promotion regimes work to attract customers and spread the word. I also have an insight on how the bottles of the perfume are designed and created and the concept behind them.
